Mary Kathryn Ashpaugh-Barbee, 92, passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at St. Luke’s Hospital North after a brief illness.

A visitation will be held at the Vaughn Funeral Home from 1:00pm – 2:00pm Sunday April 15, 2012 with services to follow at 2:00pm. Burial will be at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery following the service. 

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Short Creek Baptist Church. Mary was born October 8, 1919 to James Elmer Gardner and Mary Ann (Higgins) Gardner.

She was a lifelong resident of the Weston/ Rushville area. Mary attended Valley Chapel School, Franklin School and DeKalb High School. She worked most of her life as a caretaker for various nursing homes and hospitals. She ran a nursing home of her own. She was a member of the Short Creek Baptist Church. She was the matron of honor in the Rebecca Lodge. She enjoyed cooking for her family and was loved by all.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, first husband George Russell Ashpaugh, Second husband J.W. Barbee, Sons, Gary and Jimmy Ashpaugh, daughter Carolyn Denton, Brothers; Warren, Harold, John, Earl Gardner, and Sisters Agnes Mason, and Martha Sewell. She is survived by her sons, Mike Ashpaugh and wife Joy of Kansas City, MO, Wayne Ashpaugh and wife Diane of Rushville, MO. A daughter Linda Lamar of Weston, MO, Sister Cecelia Chestnut of Dearborn, MO, 15 grandchildren, several Great-grand children and great- great grandchildren.
