Dorothy Rose Wacker
Leavenworth, KS

Dorothy Rose Wacker, 90, of Leavenworth, died Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at Providence Medical Center. She was born March 17, 1922, in Kansas  City, Kan., the oldest daughter of William B. and Cecilia (Begley) Martin. 

She graduated from BishopWard High  School in 1940. Dorothy was a 1944 graduate of St. Mary College with a degree in music education. On Aug. 1, 1945, she married Gerald H. Wacker in Kansas City, Kan.,at Blessed Sacrament Parish. He preceded her in death in October 1986.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Janice (Dave) Zoellner of Leavenworth,Martin (Sue) Wacker of Lansing, Joan (Larry) Wilson of Santa Clarita, Calif.,Marla (Hank) Spellman of Lansing, Gerald Wacker Jr., of Leavenworth and GregWacker of Kansas City, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister,Doris Juhl; a brother-in-law, Dr. James B. Pretz; and numerous nieces andnephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Bernadine Pretz.

She was a long-time organist for Immaculate Conception Church where shewas a member. Dorothy also was a pianist at Pullman Place Restaurant for 10 years and played the piano at Medicalodge. Over a 40 year period of time, she played for countless funerals at several churches and funeral homes in thearea.

Visitation beginning with praying the rosary will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m.Thursday, April 12, 2012, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St.  Joseph Church with Rev. David McEvoy, O.Carm., as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Immaculate Conception Church.
