Delbert A. Mapes, Sr., 89, of Topeka, formerly of Whiting and Mayetta, passed away April 30, 2015 at Plaza West in Topeka.

He was born May 24, 1925 in Waterville, KS the son of Benjamin Harry and Pearl (Holland) Mapes.  He worked for the Whiting Grain Elevator for 17 years and later Pauline Co-Op for 12 years.  On December 8, 1942 he married Helen L. McDonald in Marysville, KS. She preceded him in death in 1984. He married Ellen Mitchell on May 25, 1985 in Topeka, KS. She preceded him in death in 1994.  He married Frances E. Vawter on April 24, 1995 in Lyndon, KS. She survives of the home. He was a member of Northland Christian Church.

Other survivors include: his daughter Cathy L. Hartley (Dan) of Holton, KS; his son Delbert A. Mapes, Jr. of Lawrence, KS; his sisters, June Jorgensen and Maxine Oatney both of Waterville, KS; his brother, Dean Mapes of Guam; his 2 granddaughters, Dayna (Travis) Peek and Carrie (Dustin) Andersen; his 4 great grandsons, Brayden, Rogen, Colden and Jaxon; and numerous step children, step-grand and step-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 4, 2015 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.  Burial will follow in Springhill Cemetery.  The family will greet friends one hour prior to services beginning at 9:30 a.m. Monday.  Memorials are suggested to TARC of Topeka and contributions may be left in care of Mercer Funeral Home, P.O.
