Charlene A. Rohlmeier Kaster

Charlene A. Rohlmeier Kaster, 82, North of Seneca died on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca.  

Charlene was born at home, near Pawnee City, Nebraska, on November 28, 1932 to Carl and Charlotte (Tegtmeier) Rohlmeier.  Charlene grew up on the family farm three miles east of Du Bois, Nebraska.  She attended kindergarten through eighth at Athens Country School and graduated from Du Bois Public High School in 1950. 

Charlene married Charles Kaster on April 9, 1960 at Friedens United Church of Christ west of Bern, the couple celebrated 55 years of marriage. Charlene attended Doane College in Crete, Nebraska and graduated from Peru State College in Peru, Nebraska with a BA in Elementary Education. She taught at Bennet, Nebraska, Kelly, Kansas and Bern, Kansas.  Her husband and her starting fostering children in 1974; and opened their home to approximately 50 children. In her retirement, she helped at several local daycares. 

Charlene was a member of the Du Bois Methodist Church and the Kansas National Education Association. She enjoyed gardening and sewing.  She was dedicated to her family and the Foster Care Program.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Ryan R. Sextro on July 17, 2012; and a brother, Kenneth Leroy Rohlmeier on February 21, 2015.

Charlene is survived by her husband, “Chuck” of the home; daughters, Karla (Bob) Sextro of Seneca, Kathy (Joe) Kroeger of Marysville, Kansas and Barb (Jamey) Crockett of Dearborn, Missouri; a son Dillon Kaster of Seneca; a sister, Carolyn (Dean) Yoble of Du Bois; 14 grandchildren with one on the way; and eight great-grandchildren with three on the way.

Funeral Services for Charlene will be 10:30 AM on Monday, July 6, 2015 at the Du Bois Methodist Church; Charlene will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. A visitation will be held at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca on Sunday, July 5th from 6:30 to 8:30 PM.

Memorials may be left to the Charlene Kaster Fostering Love Scholarship Fund.
