Harold Herd Wunder, 95, Valley Falls, surrounded by his loving family,  died peacefully Saturday, Aug. 1, 2015, at Midland Care Linnwood Park Home Plus at Valley Falls.

He was born Feb. 3, 1920, on the family farm in the North Cedar community west of Valley Falls, the son of George and Mary Ellen Griswold Wunder. He graduated from North Cedar Country School. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Valley Falls and often served on the church council.

Harold was a life-long farmer. He had a great passion for his land and was a good steward of it. He loved to farm. His other passions included attending threshing bees, anything and everything about cars and tractors, music, baseball, and sharing his knowledge and love of the land with his family.

 In 1959 he received the Jefferson County Soil Conservation Award. In 1988 he was awarded a Kansas Tradition Farm Award, given by the Kansas State Board of Agriculture. He received a Century Farm Award from Kansas Farm Bureau. He served on the Delaware Watershed Board of Directors for 20 years and on a committee for the Jefferson County Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service. He was a member of the International Order of Odd Fellows Crescent Lodge No. 86 in Valley Falls.

He married Gladys Katherine Senn, Dec. 4, 1956, at Valley Falls. He was preceded in death by a son, James Henry Wunder, June 11, 1962.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys, Valley Falls; his children, Maria Katherine Martin, Billings, MT, John Harold (Lori) Wunder, and Anita Gladys (Charles) Stutesman, all of Valley Falls; and five grandchildren, Mary Katherine Martin, Peoria, AZ, Jenna Maria Martin, Seattle, WA, JoAnn Elizabeth Martin, Billings, MT, and Katherine Ann Wunder and Ryan John Wunder, both of Valley Falls.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 7, 2015, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Valley Falls. Burial will follow at the Valley Falls Cemetery with a service conducted by I.O.O.F. Crescent Lodge No. 86. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls.
