Calvin Camblin

 Calvin L. Camblin, 91, of rural Robinson, died Sunday, August 30, 2015, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Hiawatha.

He was born near Robinson, September 4, 1923, one of seven children born to Irvin and Avery Cordonier Camblin and had lived nearly all of his life in the Zion Community, northeast of Robinson.  Calvin graduated from Robinson High School with the class of 1941.

Calvin was a longtime member of Zion United Methodist Church, northeast of Robinson, where he served as treasurer of Sunday School for many years.  He served two terms as director of the Robinson Farmers Union Coop; and a charter member of the Robinson Lions Club.  Calvin was over a 50 year member of Zenith Chapter #184, OES of Hiawatha; and over 60 year member of Hiawatha Masonic Lodge #33, AF&AM.

He married Caroleen Richey, January 30, 1945, at Zion Methodist Church.  They farmed and raised livestock in the Zion Community all of their married life.  He retired from farming at the age of 82, later moving to assisted living apartments at Maple Heights in June 2009 with his beloved dog Scooter.  Caroleen died January 29, 2010. 

Also preceding Calvin in death are his parents; a son Michael Wayne in infancy; 4 sisters:  Vesta Bletscher, Lois Byer, Rea Burnett, Ruth Anna Torkelson; and a brother Irvin Camblin.

Survivors include two sons:  Gary Camblin (Marsha) of Topeka, Greg Camblin (Pamela) of Poquoson, Virginia; a sister Betty Shannon of Kansas City, KS; 5 grandchildren:  Kelly Cambin Marr (Tom) of Topeka, Matthew Camblin of Shawnee Mission, KS, Kari Camblin Smith of Topeka, Cody J. Camblin (Jennifer), and Mandy R. Camblin McNamara (Paul), all of Richmond, Virginia; and 7 great-grandsons.

Friends may call at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha after 12 noon Thursday where the family will meet from 6:30 until 8 that evening with friends.
Services are planned for 10 a.m. Friday, September 4, at Zion United Methodist Church, northeast of Robinson, with Reverend Paul Waters officiating. Masonic Committal Services will be conducted by the Hiawatha Masonic Lodge.   Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha.
