Lela Marie Blunk, 89, of Atchison Kansas died Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at the Atchison Senior Village.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am on Monday, Sept. 14th, 2015 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memory Gardens. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Christian Church and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Lela was born on August 14, 1926 in rural Nemaha County, near Goff, Kansas the daughter of Harry J. and Ina Muriel (Munsel) Simeno, Sr. She moved to Atchison in 1931 and attended Atchison schools. She graduated from Atchison High School in 1944. Lela worked as a secretary for Commerce Investment Co., Prudential Life Insurance, Wilson & Company and Blish-Mize, before becoming a full-time homemaker and later retired in 1991 as a Para-professional from USD # 409. She was a member of the First Christian Church, where she served as a Deaconess, she as a 50 year member of the Martha Washington Chapter # 215 Order of the Eastern Star, and member of the NARFE Chapter # 621. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and traveling with her husband, Darrell.

Lela was married to Darrell Franklin Blunk on March 30, 1963. He preceded her in death on Dec. 20, 1998. Survivors include a daughter, Lea Ann (Dr. Carl) Schuler, Creston, IA, and three granddaughters, Carlea Ann, Leah Clare, and Sophia Marie Schuler, Creston, IA. Her parents, and a brother Harry J. Simeno, Jr preceded her in death.
