Larry Rathmann
Atchison, KS

Larry Rathmann, 72, owner and operator of Rathmann Landscaping, Atchison, passed away September 16, 2015 at his home, after a lengthy illness.

Larry was born in Battle Creek, Michigan. He was the son of Daniel H and Glenola (Garman) Rathmann. Larry had worked for many years as a maintenance supervisor at Lincoln Grain elevators A and B. Later, Larry ran his own landscaping business for over forty years. He worked in a four county area landscaping, installing septic tanks, doing dirt work and cutting trees in pastures. Larry was a very skilled equipment operator who loved his work. People called him “an artist with a Bobcat”. Larry took pride in every job that he did and enjoyed people. He also enjoyed fishing and deer hunting with his friends. Larry wanted to mention their dog, Sissy. His wish was for his family and friends to remember him as he was. Memorials can be made to Atchison Hospital Hospice. The Hospice staff became like a family to Larry and Gloria in the 14 months he was a patient in their care. Larry has been cremated, and asked not to have any services.

Larry is survived by his wife Gloria of the home, three sons: Larry Rathmann, Everest, KS, Mike (Susan) Carlson, Great Bend, KS, Mark (Laurie) Carlson, Overland Park, KS, and four daughters: Jeanne (Brad) Jenson, Holton, KS, Karolyn (Mark) Terrazas Victorville, CA, Joyce (Daniel) Gassmann Carbondale, KS and Ginger (Steve) Green, Lawrence, KS, sisters Betty Parker and Ruby Eisler Battle Creek, MI and 20 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Larry was preceded in death by his mother, father, and two brothers, Daniel and Donald Rathmann.
