Linda Kay Schmelzle, 60, Nortonville, died Friday, October 23, 2015 at her home after a long fight with cancer.  Linda was born July 7, 1955 in Leavenworth, the daughter of Charles E. and Mildred Catherine Wahaus Navinsky. She was a1973 graduate of Atchison County Community
High School. She served as a long distance circuit designer for Southwestern Bell Telephone for 30 years, retiring in 2004. She was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America and Communications Workers of America. She was a member and currently serving as President of American Legion Aux. Unit # 242 in Nortonville. She also served as Past President of the First District of American Legion Aux. of Kansas, and was a member of V.F.W. Aux unit # 3084 in Valley Falls.
 She was married to Donald E. “Don” Schmelzle on April 2, 1976 in Leavenworth, he survives at home. She is also survived by two brothers, Dale Navinsky, Cummings, David (Laurel) Navinsky, Washington, and several nieces and nephews.
  Cremation is planned.  Private Family inurnment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Valley Falls V.F.W. Aux. Unit#3084 or to the Nortonville Public Library in care of Barnett Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 602, Oskaloosa, KS.   66066.  www.barnettfamilyfh.com
