Mary Faye (Underwood) Gibbs, 69, of Hawthorne, California was born on December 2, 1945, in Sharpsburg, Iowa to Richard and Theoma (Mathews) Underwood.  She graduated from Lenox High School in Lenox, Iowa in 1964 then continued her education at Northwest Missouri State graduating in 1968.

On July 12, 1969, Mary was united in marriage to Denis Gibbs of Humboldt, Nebraska.  The couple made their home in California where Mary was employed at Boeing Aerospace for thirty years and was a member of the Calvary Presbyterian Church in Hawthorne, California.  Mary passed away on October 8, 2015, in Hawthorne, California after a long battle with cancer having reached the earthly age of sixty-nine years, 10 months, and six days.  She is preceded in death by her parents and husband Denis Gibbs.

Mary is survived by her sister Pat McGaha and her husband Ellis of Maryville, TN; nieces: Jill, Susan, and Savanah Miller of Tennessee; many great nieces and nephews; cousins: Bob and Shirley Drake of Auburn, NE; David and Ruth Mathews of Tuscon, AZ; sisters-in-law: Dixie Lienemann and her husband Dean of Omaha, NE; Echo Allman and her husband Ron of Dodge City, KS; Dianah Richardson of Newton, KS; and many other relatives and friends.  

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2015, at the United Methodist Church in Humboldt, Nebraska with Pastors Dean Joy and Jerry Hangen officiating. 

Inurnment will be at the Humboldt Cemetery followed by a luncheon for family and friends at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the family’s choice with a later designation.
