Gladies M. Theurer, 88, Atchison, Kansas, died Saturday, October 31, 2015, at her residence. 

Funeral services will be Sunday, November 8, 2015 at 3:00 PM at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lancaster, Kansas, with Sister Mary Arie officiating. Burial of cremated remains will follow in the Lancaster Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. John’s Lutheran Church or the Atchison Hospital Auxiliary and may be left in care of the funeral home. Gladies was born September 25, 1927, in White Cloud, Kansas, the daughter of Gerhard and Hulda Nixdorf Sternsdorff. She attended Maple Grove school and graduated from Atchison County Community High School. She then attended Mount St. Scholastica College. 

She and William E. Theurer were united in marriage on June 5, 1946, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lancaster, Kansas. Mr. Theurer preceded her in death on January 22, 1999.

She began her working career as a teacher during her early marriage. She then became a substitute teacher and later was a loving mother and homemaker. 

Gladies and her husband worked together on the family farm until 1976.  After moving to Atchison, they developed a love for flea markets and garage sales. She loved going to church and visiting with people, her mind was always very clear as she could always recall family history; she was a fun loving woman. She had a passion for flowers and gardening. She could always count on getting help from her son, Clinton, when she needed it. 

She was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lancaster and the Atchison Hospital Auxiliary. 

Survivors include her son Clinton Theurer, Atchison, KS, a brother Carl Sternsdorff, Effingham, KS, a daughter-in-law Laura Theurer, Wichita Falls, TX, eleven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, a son Barry Theurer, a daughter Katherine Seals, a brother Horst Sternsdorff and a sister Goldie McVey.
