Delaine E. Wenger

Delaine E. Wenger, of rural Powhattan, died Monday, November 2, 2015, at the age of 64.  He was born February 2, 1951 n Sabetha, Kansas, the son of Kenneth and Marjorie Thornton Wenger.

Delaine grew up and lived his whole life in the Powhattan community.  He attended the Powhattan schools, graduating with the class of 1969.  He attended Kansas State University and graduated in 1973 with a degree in agricultural economics.

Delaine returned to Powhattan and began his life-time love of farming.

He met and married his wife, Janet Rasdall, in December 1974.  To this union, they were blessed with two sons:  Matthew and Marc.  Delaine’s family was most important to him.  He loved his six grandchildren and was excited about the arrival of another grandson in December.

Delaine was a long time member of Powhattan Methodist Church where he served as administrative board chairman for many years. He also served on the Brown County Coop board for three terms.

Delaine and Janet had the opportunity to take many wonderful and memorable trips.  He enjoyed spending time with family and will be greatly missed.

Delaine was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his wife Janet of the home; sons:  Matthew (Carla) Wenger of Fairview, Marc (Katie) Wenger of Overland Park, Kansas; grandchildren Ian and Alex of Fairview, Kennedie, Jackson, Charlie, and Emme of Overland Park; his Mother Marjorie Layman of Topeka; a brother Ron (Kathy) Wenger of Powhattan; sisters:  Patti (Jim) Branson of Carbondale, KS, Cheryl (Ralph) Bryant of Topeka; and his step-mother Shirley Wenger of Hiawatha.

Memorial services are planned at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 7, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha, with Reverend Pricilla Davies officiating.
