Helen Mary (Joergens) Meiners, 100, of Hiawatha, Kansas passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 11, 2015, at Maple Heights Nursing Home.

Helen was born in Kansas City, Missouri on May 5, 1915 to Max and Bertha (Hummel) Joergens.  She was the youngest of three children.  Her sister, Margaret Walters, and brother, Edward Joergens, both of Kansas City preceded her in death.  Helen grew up and attended schools in the Kansas City area.

She married Richard Meiners, Sr. in June 1936 in Kansas City, and they moved to Lenexa, Kansas where they raised their three children, Richard, Jr. (Charlene) of Lenexa, Kansas, Betty (Joe) Griebat of Hiawatha, Kansas, and Ronald (Sandy) of Montrose, Colorado.  In 1957, the family moved to Falls City, Nebraska where they resided until 1966 when they moved to Hiawatha, Kansas.  Richard, Sr. who died in 1970, was a long time employee of Wilde Tool Company in Hiawatha, and Helen was a homemaker and mother.  She enjoyed gardening, playing bridge and baking, and was well known for her “famous orange cookies.”  She also enjoyed traveling and went to many places in the United States, Canada and Mexico.  Helen (Gram) was blessed with 16 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren, which kept her busy over the years caring for them and attending their activities.  She was a longtime member of St. Ann Catholic Church of Hiawatha.

Helen is survived by her three children and all of her grand and great grandchildren

Mass of Christian Burial is planned on Monday, November 16, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Hiawatha, Kansas at 10:30 a.m., with Father Dan Gardner as the celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 a.m. Sunday. The parish rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. Sunday, followed by the family visiting with friends until 5.
