Clarence Eugene “Gene” Williams

Clarence Eugene “Gene” Williams, 67, of Holton, KS, passed away Monday, November 16, 2015 at Stormont Vail Hospital. He was born June 4, 1948 in Holton, the son of Boyd Isaac and Florence Viola (Hiner) Williams.

Gene graduated from Holton High School in 1966. He also attended Vo-Tech in Kansas City and Highland Community College. He had worked for Jackson County Farmer’s Co-Op, he was a diesel mechanic for Al Hann and he was a ranch-hand for Massey Ferguson Dealership- Wilbur Cox all in Holton.

He proudly joined the United States Army Signal Corp; serving in Vietnam, Korea and Germany from 1969 – 1971. After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Army, Gene worked for the City of Holton as Production Superintendent, City Manager, Utilities Manager and retired after almost 40 years as Production Superintendent. Gene was the longest term employee for the City of Holton. He also worked for King of the Road as a charter bus driver in Topeka. After retirement, he was a school bus driver for USD 336 and he enjoyed farming.

Gene was an active member of the Evangel United Methodist Church. He had served in many capacities for the church and was currently serving on the Youth Leadership Team. He was also a member of Holton V.F.W. Post 1367. Gene was a former Holton Volunteer Fire Fighter, former member of Holton Lion’s Club, Holton Rotary and Holton Country Club.

He married Kristen E. Rhule on April 7, 1972 in Holton, they later divorced and she preceded him in death on April 27, 2012.

Gene married Sandra Lee “Sandy” Hanenkrat-Roush on July 12, 2008 in Holton. She survives of the home. Other survivors include a daughter, Shelby Patch (Troy) of Holton; 3 step-children, Brian Roush of Circleville, Michael Roush (Kristi) of Holton and Alison Olson of Topeka; a sister, Mary McCrory (Jim) of Mayetta; 2 grandchildren, Bryson and Macey Patch and 6 step-grandchildren, Kolby, Christopher and Dalton Roush, Kreighton Roush and Kevin and Brody Olson.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 19, 2015 at the Evangel United Methodist Church in Holton. Burial with military honors will follow in the Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.
