Twila (Johnson) Rettele

 Twila (Johnson) Rettele passed away on December 14, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa at the age of 95.  She was born November 3, 1920 in Centralia, Kansas to Thomas and Grace (Hall) Johnson.  Twila was one of 10 siblings.

  She was married to Joseph D. Rettele in Baileyville, Kansas at the Sacred Heart Church on February 21, 1939. To this union was born nine children which included two sets of twins. Joe passed away in March, 1969.  Twila was married to John Beyreis August 10, 1972 through 1986. John Beyreis passed away February, 1993.

   Twila was known for her kind heart and willingness to help friends and neighbors.  She enjoyed gardening, quilting and traveling to visit her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Twila quilted approximately 30 quilts in the last few years before she lost her eyesight. She especially loved flowers and cared for her beautiful flower beds even after she was afflicted with macular degeneration. At age 79 her eyesight almost completely failed her; yet she continued to function surprisingly well with the help of wonderful friends, neighbors and family. Twila has been a resident of Tecumseh since June, 1969. She retired from Campbell Soup Co. after 19 years of service. Twila also cleaned homes for the elderly and rooms at the Town and Country Motel for 25 years.  Twila was a longtime member of St. Andrew Catholic Church Altar Society.  

 Twila was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and one brother, her husband Joe, and two sons, Jerry and Larry.

   Her surviving children are: Dale & Richard Rettele of Northville, MI, Marilyn (Rettele) Ritter of Live Oak, FL, Loren Rettele of Glendora, CA, Marvin Rettele of Spring Branch, TX, Judy (Rettele) Bergman of Danville, IA, and John Rettele of Tecumseh, NE.  She has three living siblings:  Dorvan Johnson, Ogallala, NE, Mary McKenney, Auburn, NE, and Loretta Holton, Jacksonville, FL, 22 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.  

Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 18, 2015 at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends from 4-7 p.m. Rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m.  Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 19, 2015 at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tecumseh, NE, with Father Craig Clinch officiating.  Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Baileyville,Kansas, with Father Thomas Dunavan officiating.  Memorials may go to the family’s choice for later designation.  Online condolences may be left @ www.wherrymortuary.com.
