Doris Jean Rogers, 89 of rural Horton, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at Vintage Park in Hiawatha, Kansas.

She was born on October 28, 1926 in Effingham, Kansas the daughter of Lester and Lorena Hawk Chalfant. Doris graduated from Effingham High School and taught school for the Pleasant Ridge School for 4 years. She married Ralph Rogers on May 25, 1947 in Huron, Kansas. She then became a homemaker and helped Ralph on the family farm. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for 20 years. She was a former 4-H leader and served on the Atchison County Life Stock Board for 30 years.

Doris played the piano by ear, loved music, loved her home and family. She enjoyed entertaining company, working in the garden and working in her yard. In later years she read the Bible and numerous books everyday.

Survivors include a son, Larry (Annette) Rogers of rural Horton, Kansas; daughter, Lynn (Keith) Lanter of rural Horton, Kansas; sister, Helen Harden of Atchison, Kansas; six grandchildren, Michael Rogers, Aaron (Robyn) Lanter, Andrew (Laura) Lanter, Tonya (Dean) Merz, John (Holly) Isaacs and Matthew (Amy) Isaacs; twelve great grandchildren. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ralph on March 15, 2005 and brother, Lester Chalfant.

Funeral services will be on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas where the family will greet friends on Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. Burial will be at the Horton Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the First Baptist Church Building Fund in care of the mortuary.
