Fredrick Lewis Hirsch

Fredrick Lewis Hirsch, 87, of Mason Neck VA., died Jan. 18, 2016, at Inova Hospital Fairfax  VA, with his wife of 63 years Virginia Lee Hirsch at his side. 

He was born to the late Alvin Carl and Veda Mae (Cavett) Hirsch, Sept. 4, 1928, in Fairbury,  Nebraska.  Fred graduated from Powhattan High School, Powhattan, Kansas class of 1946. Fred and Virginia Lee Owens were married June 10 1952 at Nortonville Kansas. After serving in the National Guard, Fred joined the US Air Force in 1950, serving 26 years with the Air Police Security.  He was stationed in New Mexico, England, Alaska, and two tours of duty at the Pentagon. Upon retiring from the Air Force he was a produce Manager with Grand Union Supermarket until opening a string of four Pershing Markets with a group of partners. Fred retired to the comfort of his Mason Neck home in 1992. 

Fred is survived by his wife Virginia Lee Hirsch, brothers Robert, Le Roy, and Larry (Butch), sisters Carol, and Rose Ann, sons Steven and Bradley  and their wives Patricia and Belinda, grand children Elizabeth, Fred, Becky , Jason, Jeremy, Jamie, and Rachel, great grand children Hailey, Annie, Jeremy Jr., Davis, Jacob, Lilly, and Kennedy.

Fred was also preceded in death by two brothers:  Dennis Hirsch and James Hirsch.

A masonic committal service will be held Friday evening at 6:00 at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha followed by the family visiting with friends until 8:00.

The funeral service will be 1:00 pm Saturday 1/23/2016 at the United Methodist Church 208 E Main St., Powhattan Kansas.   Reverend Priscilla Davies will officiate.  Interment will follow at Powhattan Cemetery, with military honors a courtesy of the Brown County Veterans Honor Guard.

The Family will be receiving guests at the United Methodist Church after the interment.
