Robert A.“Bob” Shuck, 78, Atchison, Kansas, died Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

The body was cremated.  No services are planned.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the Atchison Humane Society and may be left in care of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with whom the final arrangements have been entrusted.  Online condolences may be left at www.arensbergpruett.com. 

Robert was born on December 3, 1937, the son of George A. and Frances (Brown) Shuck.  He attended Washington Grade School as a child and was a 1955 graduate of Atchison High School.  Upon his graduation he was chosen to participate in a program at the former LFM Foundry, where after a period of five years or 10,000 hours he became a journeyman patternmaker.  He was employed at the LFM Foundry from 1955 to 1967.  In 1969, he opened his shop at 937 Commercial Street, Shucks Wood Products, where he worked up until his illness in July of 2015. 

Mr. Shuck was a member of the First Christian Church and the Active Lodge AM/FM of Atchison, where he received his 50 year pin.  He obtained his amateur radio license when he was 18 years old and enjoyed talking to friends all over the world via his satellite receiver.  

On July 14, 1962, he married the former Mary Jane Browning, of Rushville, MO, at the Sugar Creek Christian Church. 

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Jane Shuck, of the couple’s home in Atchison, KS, two daughters, Dana Elizabeth (Neil) Schumacher, El Dorado Hills, CA and Rachel Lynn Shuck, Vista, CA.  They have two grandsons, Nathan Schumacher, age 13, and Owen Schumacher, age 11.  

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Emma Jean Besinger, brother-in-law, Forrest Besinger, and a brother Walter Shuck.
