Mary J. Brooke, 86, Atchison, Kansas died Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at the Atchison Hospital.

Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 12:30 P.M. at St. Joseph’s Church with Abbot Barnabas Senecal, OSB as celebrant.  Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.  A parish rosary will be recited on Friday, January 29th at 7:00 P.M. at Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with visitation to follow until 8:30 P.M.  Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Benedict Parish and may be left in care of the funeral home.  Online condolences may be left at www.arensbergpruett.com

Mary was born May 16, 1929 in St. Joseph, Missouri the daughter of Antone and Josephine Politowitz Zuchowski.  She attended Saints Peter and Paul Elementary school, graduating from Central High School in St. Joseph and one year with a business college in St. Joseph.

She and Norman E. Brooke were united in marriage on August 19, 1950 at Saints Peter and Paul Church in St. Joseph, Missouri.  Mr. Brooke preceded her in death on April 25, 2007.

Mary worked with her husband in the operation of Brooke Sales and Service Heating and Cooling as the secretary and bookkeeper until her retirement.

She was a member of St. Benedict Parish participating as an active member of St. Joseph’s Church and a member of the church Altar Society.  Mary spent many hours with her children and grandchildren, dedicating her life as a mother to them.

She is survived by three sons, Dennis A. (Paulette) Brooke, Atchison, KS; Wayne M. (Sandra) Brooke, Atchison, KS; N. Chris (Amy) Brooke, Topeka, KS; four daughters, Janice M. (Ron) Cassell, New Palestine, IN; Mary E. Reder, Platte City, MO; Martha J. (Dan) Koehler, Atchison, KS; Tracy L. (Brad) Devinney, Olathe, KS, eighteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, James N. Zuchowski.
