Eugene E. “Gene” Boos, 89, of Ft. Morgan, CO, and a Doniphan County, Kansas native, passed away peacefully at the home of his daughter in Windsor, Colorado, surrounded by his family, Thursday, February 25, 2016.

Gene was born in Bendena, KS, November 29, 1926, to Nicholas and Elizabeth Goll Boos and grew up near Severance, attended schools there where he graduated high school. He was drafted in the US Army in 1951 where he served two years including the Korean Conflict. After discharge from active duty, he served in the Army reserves for 8 years, discharged at the rank of sergeant. Mr. Boos was a longtime member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church of Bendena; and Dillon-Bales American Legion in Highland.

During his retirement, Gene enjoyed wood working, spending time with his family, especially enjoying the grandkids.

He married the love of his life Wavah “Jean” Boos, August 7, 1950, at St. Benedict’s Church in Bendena. They lived in Highland where they stayed until 1973 when they moved to Ft. Morgan, CO where they owned and operated Boos Grain & Fertilizer. Besides the grain & fertilizer business, though the years Gene also was a mail carrier for the US Postal Services; operated Boos Hardware; and Boos Grain Elevator. She died July 14, 2012 after 61 years of marriage. Gene was also preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Donald and Richard Boos; and a sister Mary Beth.

Survivors include his children: Barry Boos (Kathy) of Robinson, Linda Jeschke (John) of Troy, KS, Marilyn Miller (Dale) of Buckner, MO, Greg Boos (Debbie) of Wathena, KS, Pam Watson (Keith) of Windsor, CO, Jacque Christensen (Bob) of Brush, CO, Stacey Martindale (Howard) of Ft. Morgan, CO, Scott Boos of Valentine, NE; 21 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Also surviving are his brother Clarence “Bud” Boos of Bendena and sister Janet “Jay” Hamilton of Topeka .

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Benedicts Catholic Church of Bendena, at 2 p.m. Friday, March 4, with Father Francis Bakyor as the celebrant. Interment with military honors will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 a.m. Thursday at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Highland. A parish rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Thursday, followed by the family visiting with friends until 8 that evening at the funeral home.
