Shirley Oenbring

Shirley Lou (Callam) Oenbring, 83 of Pawnee City, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2016 in Pawnee City, Nebraska.  She was born on January 27, 1933 at the farm home of her parents Reuben A. and Vera V. (Slater) Callam, south west of Pawnee City, Nebraska.

Shirley attended District 6 Greendale country school south of Pawnee City and graduated from Pawnee City High School in 1950.  After graduation Shirley taught at the Union rural school south east of Pawnee City.

Shirley served as pianist at the Pleasant Valley E.U.B. Church south of Pawnee City and for the church quartet.  She also taught the church summer Bible school.  On June 2, 1951 Shirley was united in marriage to Edwin C.Oenbring at the Pleasant Valley E.U.B. church.  To this union three sons were born, Roger,Randall and Russell.  During her married life she lived in Pawnee City, Nebraska, Tahoma, TX and Elk Creek, Nebraska.  In the fall of 1960 they moved to a farm south west of Pawnee City where they lived for 13 years.  At that time they purchased the farm south of Pawnee City, that had been in the Callam family for a number of years.  They moved to Pawnee City in 2001.  During her life Shirley was a 4-H leader, worked at S.E.N.C.A. as the head start school nurse, C.N.A. at Pawnee Manor and as a nurse aide, while working at Pawnee County Memorial Hospital she was in purchasing, central supply, surgery, accounting and receptionist for a total of nearly 48 years.

Shirley was a member of the V.F.W. auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary of Pawnee City.  Shirley  enjoyed all her work during her life and also enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, gardening, crocheting and embroidering.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Edwin, sons, Russell and Roger, infant sister, sister and brothers-in-law,  Leota and George Kreifel, grandson Jason “Jake” Oenbring.

She is survived by her son Randall of Pawnee City, NE, one grandson, seven great grandchildren, brother, Nathan (Bud) Callam and wife Mary of Beatrice, NE, sisters-in-law, Marilyn Oenbring of Bennett, NE, Mildred VanDeventer of Humboldt, NE, Mary Ann Oenbring of Lincoln, NE, brother-in-law Cyril Oenbring of Colorado, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
