Ruby Maxine Jones Strickler Hansen was born March 19, 1925, the daughter of Elmer and Dollie Higgenbottom Jones on a farm northwest of Scottsville, KS. She died March 6, 2016, at Village Villa Nursing Home, Nortonville, KS, at age 90.

Maxine attended country school for six years. In 1939, the family moved to Jamestown. She attended school there until 1944. In March of that year she married William Herbert Strickler who was serving in the US Army. Bill was shipped out to Europe and was killed in October, 1944, in France just before the Battle of the Bulge. Their son, William Herbert, was born in December.

In !948 she met and married Alfred Hansen. They had one son, Harold Eugene. Mr. Hansen died January 4, 1985.

Maxine worked in nursing homes and hospitals and retired from St. Francis Hospital, Milwaukee, WI. She was a volunteer in Beloit, KS, for the Economy Shop and Senior Center. She was a lifetime member of Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 6242 at Beloit.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, her sister, Charlotte Hayes, and granddaughter, Kristina Strickler.

Maxine is survived by her sons, William Strickler, and his wife, Karen, Valley Falls, and Harold Hansen, and his wife, Simone, Clyde Park, MT; five grandchildren, Tammy (Boyd) Hager, Bill (Ellen) Hansen, Matthew (Tiffany) Strickler, Michael (Jenna) Strickler, and Marshal (Devan) Strickler and eleven great-grandchildren.

As she wished, Maxine was cremated and will be inurned in the family plot at Pleasant Prairie Cemetery, Randall, KS. Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls, KS, is in charge of arrangements. www.mercerfuneralhomes.com
