Donnie Lee Collins, 64, of Topeka, KS formerly of Holton, passed away Saturday, March 19, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital. He was born October 29, 1951 in Holton, KS the son of Don D. and Lela Faye (Fisher) Collins.

Donnie graduated from Holton High School in 1971. He proudly served in the Kansas Air National Guard from 1972 – 1978.  He worked as Dispatch for the Holton Police Dept. In 1996 he graduated from Kansas Law Enforcement Training in Hutchinson. After graduation Donnie served as Holton Police Officer and later served as Jackson County Undersheriff.  He was also an EMT and volunteer fire fighter for many years.

Donnie was a member of the First Christian Church in Holton, Holton V.F.W., V.F.W. Riders and Holton Optimist Club.
He married Cindy Patton on November 18, 1972 in Holton. They later divorced.

Survivors include his father, Don D. Collins of Topeka; his 3 children, Shannon Haire (Mike) of Topeka, Jory Collins (Casey) of Emporia and Morgan Gerhardt (Chad) of Topeka; a sister, Linda K. Floyd of Topeka; a brother, Roger Collins (Barb) of Holton; 7 grandchildren, Griffin, Carson and Conner Haire, Jett and Jude Collins, Hunter and Bodey Gerhardt; a granddaughter on the way and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial with military honors will be in the Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the American Lung Assoc. or First Christian Church c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O.
