Duane Lorain Wehrbein, 84 of Burchard, Nebraska passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2016 in Pawnee City, Nebraska. He was born on October 10, 1931 to Oscar and Gertrude (Schuetz) in rural Pawnee County.

Duane grew up on a farm northwest of Burchard, Nebraska. He attended Tranquility Country School, he graduated from Lewiston High School 1949. Graduated from Dana College in Blair Nebraska in1961.

Married Katherine Anne Steinauer on February 15, 1958 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Steinauer, Nebraska. To this union two children were born, Jeffrey Duane and Beverly Kay.

Duane worked as a Accountant/Auditor for USDA and was a active farmer.

Duane was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in rural Steinauer. He was Life Member of American Legion Post #156, Burchard, Nebraska, Life member of VFW Post #5289 of Pawnee City, Nebraska. 

Duane served in the Army in Korea from 1952-1954, he was medical discharged due to contacting hepatitis .

Duane enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, refinishing furniture, farming, bowling, golfing, winemaking and softball.  He enjoyed playing cards (Pitch). He was a arm chair HUSKER fan and enjoyed trips to Vegas.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Gertrude Wehrbein, sisters Marilyn Wehrbein, Geraldine L. Miles and brother-in-law Ed Miles.

He is survived by his wife Katherine A Wehrbein, son, Jeffrey D. and wife Tracie Wehrbein, daughter, Beverly K. & husband Brad Stake, seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren brothers, Gerald L. and wife Carol Jean Wehrbein, David W. Wehrbein, sister, Sharon Lambert, brother-in-law, Robert J. and wife Barbara Steinauer, sisters-in-law, Mary S. Miles and Sally Steinauer,  brother-in-law Dave Miles, aunt Zelma Burgess, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Salem U.C.C. in rural Steinauer.  Co Officiating Reverend Eric Biehl and Reverend Scott M. Courtney, KHS.  Visitation on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m. at Wherry Mortuary, 919 G Street, Pawnee City, Nebraska. Inurnment at a later date. Memorials to family choice.
