Julia “Judy” Miller, 88, Atchison, Kansas, died Monday, March 21, 2016, at the Atchison Hospital.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at 11:00 A.M., at St. Benedict’s Church, with Abbot Barnabas Senecal, OSB, officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A parish rosary will be Monday, March 28th at 6:00 P.M. in the chapel of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will follow until 7:30 P.M. Memorial contributions are suggested to Atchison Hospital Auxiliary or the American Heart Association and may be left in care of the funeral home.  Online condolences may be left at www.arensbergpruett.com.                        

Born February 22, 1928, in Atchison, Kansas, the daughter of Hugh and Ruth Clark Cavanaugh. She attended St. Benedict’s elementary school and graduated from Mount St. Scholastica Academy.

She married Theodore Miller on September 10, 1947, at St. Benedict’s Church. He preceded her in death on September 26, 1991. 

She assisted her husband on the farm while raising their children, she then began working for ACES hot lunch and USD #409 hot lunch program, catering St. Joseph School until it closed. Then was manager and cook at the “Tea Room” on the Benedictine College south campus until it closed. She then transferred to north campus and worked as a manager-cook at the “Roost” until she retired in 1990.

She was a member of St. Benedict Parish, attending daily mass at St. Benedict’s Church. She was a Eucharistic minister serving Atchison Senior Village. She was a volunteer for Atchison Hospital Auxiliary receiving the award for Auxiliarian of the year in 2011, and volunteered as a driver for the road to recovery program with American Cancer Society, and as a driver for patients of the hospice program. 

She enjoyed her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, bowling, playing cards, traveling and fishing. 

Survivors include a daughter Ruth (Ed) Campos, Ft. Collins, CO, five sons, Terry (Joann) Miller, Atchison, KS, Joe Miller, Lancaster, KS, Tom (Kim) Miller, Cummings, KS, Pete (Bonnie) Miller, Hanover, KS, Don (Alice) Miller, Olathe, KS, and a sister Pat (Bud) Boos, Denton, KS, two sisters-in-law, Shirley Cavanaugh, Atchison, KS, Geve Althoff, Kansas City, KS, thirteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren and numerous step grandchildren and great grandchildren.  

She was preceded in death by a child, Teddy Miller, a brother Mike Cavanaugh, and a sister, Irene Ring.
