Virginia Tilton Gordon

Virginia Tilton Gordon, 84, formerly of Highland, passed away Sunday morning, April 3, 2016, at Homestead Assisted Living , Leavenworth, KS.  Virginia had been living in Lansing for the last 4 years at Twin Oaks Independent Living.

She was born March 2, 1932, in Highland, the daughter of John and Hattie Gibson Tilton and had lived most of her life at Highland.  Virginia was united in marriage to Edward ‘Francis’ Gordon, August 31, 1928, in Troy.   He preceded her in death October 16, 2013, after being married for 65 years.  She was also preceded in death by her parents, a son Dr. Wayne Gordon, a brother Wayne Tilton; and a great-grand-daughter Gaberille Rizek.

Mrs. Gordon was a longtime member of the Methodist Church of Highland; and the Vanderslice Chapter to the Order of Eastern Star of Highland.

Virginia worked with Francis in the Gordon Construction Company as bookkeeper and secretary until they retired.  She enjoyed cooking, playing dominoes, and bingo.  Mostly, she enjoyed her grandchildren and what they were doing.

Survivors include her daughter Gloria (Gene) Schneider of Leavenworth; 6 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.  Also surviving is her sister Ida (Jacob) McKay of Lansing.

The family will meet with friends from 9:30 until 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Highland, to go in procession to Highland Cemetery for graveside services.  Pastor Jerry Petering will officiate.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 a.m. until 6 Tuesday evening.
