Darrel J. Koso

Darrel J. Koso, 84 of Rulo, NE passed away Monday, April 4, 2016 at Falls City Nursing and Rehab. He was born on December 14, 1931 to John and Nettie (Flaherty) of Barada, NE. Attended rural school. He was inducted into the army and stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas on 29 January 1953. He served in Korea for 2 years and was honorably discharged 31 December 1954 at Fort Carson, Colorado.

Darrel married JoAnn E. Scheitel on June 3, 1956. They were married 59 years.  The couple lived all their married life in the Falls City and Rulo area. 

Darrel was employed at the Margrave Ranch, Frontier and Commodore Homes, and Sunset trailers. He later was owner/operator of Koso's Kash and Karry. He worked as a painter at Rolfes Manufacturing for numerous years. After his retirement from Rolfes he engaged in farming and raising Angus cattle. 

Darrel was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ, Past Master of Masonic Lodge #9, Sesostris Shriners, Past Worthy Patron of Humboldt Eastern Star Chapter #234 OES and Falls City Chapter #225 OES, Falls City Elks Lodge #963, and Past President of the Richardson County Historical Society.  He coached big girls softball, Frontier Homes baseball team, bowled and liked to play horseshoes. His favorite past time was fishing especially on Table Rock Lake near Branson, MO. He was affectionately known to many of his family and neighbors in Barada as Junior.

Darrel is survived by his wife, JoAnn of the home, son Mic (Colleen) Koso, daughters Christi (Galen) Heitshusen of Uehling, NE, Connie (Chuck) Simmonds of San Antonio, Texas, and Cathi Koso of Falls City, 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Donald “Jack” and Dale, sisters Minnie German, Vivian Walters, one sister in infancy and grandson Chad Simmonds.

His funeral will be held on Friday, April 8, 2016 at 10:30 AM at Zion United Church of Christ with Reverend Fay Ann Blaylock officiating. Interment will be in Zion United Church of Christ Cemetery. Military graveside honors by Falls City Ceremonial Honor Guard

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 7-8:00 PM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.
