Eleanor Mosteller

Eleanor Elizabeth (Dick) Mosteller, 93, of Sabetha formerly of Bern, Kansas was born July 26, 1922, near DuBois, Nebraska to Ernest and Sarah (Habegger) Dick.  Eleanor grew up, the eldest of three children, on a farm east of DuBois.  For her early formal education, she attended Rockdale Country School and later graduated from DuBois High School in 1940.  On April 15, 1942, Eleanor was united in marriage to Oliver Mosteller of Bern, Kansas.  To this union a son, Leon, was born.  The couple established their home on the Mosteller farmstead before moving into Bern in 1975.

Eleanor was a helpmate to Ollie, and caregiver to her father-in-law, Amzi, until his death.  For many years she also cared for Aunt Minnie Pauli in their home.  When she and Ollie moved to Bern, she cared for her mother.  It was during this time period that she also helped with the Bauman Catering Service and later worked at the Bern Café.  Eleanor was an active member of the Bern United Methodist Church where she filled numerous capacities. She enjoyed playing cards, especially pinochle.  For many years, Eleanor enjoyed making ceramics, quilting, and tending her flowers. She also enjoyed baking and cooking for family and friends.

Eleanor passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at The Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha, Kansas having reached the earthly age of ninety-three years, eight months, and eleven days.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Oliver, in 1984, sister-in-law Pauline Dick, and brother-in-law Norman Peterson.  Eleanor is survived by her son Leon Mosteller and his wife Karen of rural Bern, KS; grandchildren: Ross (Tonya) Mosteller of rural Seneca, KS; Robert (Elizabeth) Mosteller of rural Bern, KS; Karla (Justin) Kramer of rural Seneca, KS; seven great-grandchildren: Lane, Maddy, Lindy Mosteller, Brecken, Latham, Nola Kramer, and Lorraina Mosteller; a sister Mildred Peterson of Pawnee City, NE, a brother Robert  Dick of Lynch, NE; and several nieces, nephews, other family members, and numerous friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2016, at the United Methodist Church in Bern, Kansas with Reverend Willy Banza officiating.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. on Friday, April 8, 2016, at The Wherry Mortuary in Humboldt, Nebraska.  The family will greet friends from 7-8 p.m. at the mortuary.  

Inurnment will be in the Bern Cemetery in Bern, Kansas at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Apostolic Christian Home or Bern Untied Methodist Church.
