Thomas Wayne “Tom” Davies, 74, of Holton, KS passed away Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. He was born September 11, 1941 in Concordia, KS the son of Rowland A. and Isabelle M. (Hess) Davies.

Tom graduated from Concordia High School in 1959. He attended San Bernardino College in CA and also Emporia State University. Tom proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. Tom worked for Santa Fe Railroad for 37 years, retiring in 2002.

Tom enjoyed volunteering in the Holton community. He was a strong advocate of education and was a mentor for students in USD 336. Additionally he served as a past president and board member. Tom was an active member of the Holton Optimist Club for many years serving as past club president. Tom served as a past board member of Holton Main Street, Beck-Bookman Library and Jackson County Training Center. He was a current board member of the Banner Creek Observatory and Science Center. Tom was a member of Evangel United Methodist Church. He was a current member of the DJ’s Sunday School Class and previously taught Sunday School alongside his wife, Deb.

 He married Diane Johnson in 1964, they divorced. Tom married Deborah Kay Obley on February 12, 1994 in Holton. She survives of the home. Other survivors include Tom and Deb’s children, Courtney J. Hackey (Jim) of Topeka, KS, Billie J. Bagley (Zac) of Liberty Hill, TX, Rachel E. Moulden (Blake) of Topeka, KS, Tamara K. Graff (Bill) of Coraopolis, PA, Rebecca J. Martin (Jack) of Holton, KS and Brian D. Cox (Audrey) of Topeka, KS; 11 grandchildren; Joie Bagley; Maggie Jo, Beau and Thomas Moulden; Dylan and Mason Graff; Levi, Jackson and Abbygail Martin and Ellis and Cooper Cox; 2 brothers, Gary Davies (Nancy) of McKinney, TX and John Davies (Louise) of Wichita, KS and his dog, Bear.

Celebration of Tom’s Life will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 15, 2016 at Evangel United Methodist Church Family Life Center. Private family inurnment will be in the Holton Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Evangel United Methodist Church, Holton High School Athletics or Holton Hospital c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
