Esther Elizabeth Thompson, 90, Meriden, died Sunday, April 17, 2016, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.

She was born June 14, 1925, at Williamstown, the daughter of Glen Zachariah and Cassie Mae Dick May. She graduated from Perry High School and from Christ Hospital School of Nursing in Topeka.

Esther worked as a registered nurse at the Santa Fe Hospital and at Colmery-O’Neil Veterans Medical Center, both in Topeka. She retired from Colmery-O’Neil after 31 years of service, having become Head Nurse of Psychiatric Services.

She attended Rock Creek Bible Church at Meriden, and was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and Christ Hospital Alumni Association.

Esther married Arlan Myers Thompson, July 23, 1946, at Topeka. He died January 10, 2012. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Edith Bishop and Velma McGarity.

Survivors include her son, Phillip (Kathy) Thompson, Nortonville; her daughter, Pamela (Stanford) Pauley, Woodinville, WA; a brother, Glen Eugene May, Lawrence; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

The Funeral Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 22, 2016, at Rock Creek Bible Church, north of Meriden. Cremation will follow the service and inurnment will be at a later date at Oak Ridge Cemetery, north of Perry. Visitation will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls.
