Delta I. Marten, 97, of Onaga, died Sunday, April 24, 2016 at Community Hospital Onaga.

She  was born November 18, 1918 near Onaga, the daughter of Charley and Emma Wrosch Zabel.  She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Duluth, where she was a lifelong member.  She was also a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League at St. Paul’s.

She was married to Lorenz Marten on March 8, 1939 at Duluth.  Lornez and Delta moved north of Onaga where they farmed until Lorenz passed away on April 12, 1979.

Delta had worked at the Honig Merchantile and was a rural mail carrier, but was primarily a homemaker and loved to quilt.  She quilted many beautiful quilts, not only for all of her children, but for all of her grandchildren.  For many years she quilted at the Onaga Senior Center.  She also enjoyed crocheting and continued to do so until very recently.  Many people were blessed with her gifts of crocheted hangars that she enjoyed making and sharing.  Delta was also known around Onaga for her delicious angel food cakes that she made for family and friends.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Ronald Marten in 2003 and Kenneth Marten in 2013, four sisters and one brother. 

Survivors include a son, David Marten (Cathy), Onaga; a daughter-in-law, Mary Kay Marten; eight grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  Delta will be missed by many people that loved her.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 28th at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.  Burial will follow in the Onaga Cemetery.  Delta will lie in state Wednesday at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Onaga where a Prayer Service will be held at 6:30 p.m., followed by visitation until 8:00.  Memorials are suggested to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and may be sent in care of the funeral home, P.O.
