Glenn A. Koehler

Glenn Albert Koehler, 88, of Falls City formerly of rural Humboldt, Nebraska was born on September 29, 1927, in rural Humboldt, Nebraska to Albert and Lena (Johnson) Koehler.  He was baptized on October 30, 1927 at St. James (Long Branch) Lutheran Church and later confirmed on September 14, 1941.  Glenn attended country school north of Humboldt and later graduated from Bratton Union High School with the class of 1945.  After graduating, Glenn was drafted into the United States Army on March 5, 1946 and was stationed in Tokyo, Japan until being honorably discharged on April 19, 1947.  Glenn then hitchhiked his way home from California to Nebraska.

On August 3, 1950, Glenn was united in marriage to Verna Mae Bohling at Hickory Grove Church by Pastor Kohlm.  To this union, six children: Kathie, Randy, Paul, Julie, Brian, and Angela, were born.  Glenn lived and farmed his entire life on the same farm where he was born and in 1972 received the Nemaha County Soil Conservation Award.  Glenn served on the Rural Water board in Nemaha County for many years.  He was a life-long member of St. James (Long Branch) Lutheran Church serving on church council for many years, member of the Bratton Union School Board, and life-long member of the Harvey-Mann Legion Post #269 and V.F.W.  Glenn enjoyed his wife’s cooking especially her coffee cake and cinnamon rolls.  He never wanted to miss a game of cards and enjoyed being around people.  Glenn was a loving husband, father, and grandfather whose love for his family will always be cherished. 

Glenn passed away at the Community Medical Center in Falls City, Nebraska on Thursday, April 28, 2016, having reached the earthly age of eighty-eight years, six months, and thirty days.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Verna Mae, brothers Edwin, Clarence (Hulda) and Wilber (Iona) Koehler, a sister Lenora (Lawrence) Volker, sister-in-law Mildred (Norman) Gerdes; brothers-in-law: Harold Buchholz, Orvall (Edith) Bohling, Lloyd Rathke, and Otto Volker. 

Glenn is survived by his children: Kathie (Thomas) Hall of Barada, NE; Randy (Belinda) Koehler of Omaha, NE; Paul (Anne) Koehler of Lincoln, NE; Julie (Kenny) Killingsworth of Falls City, NE; Brian (Linda) Koehler of York, NE; Angela (Doug) Meyer of Cairo, NE; 21 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 4 step great-grandchildren; a sister Lela Buchholz of Tecumseh, NE; sisters-in-law: Helen Volker of Johnson, NE; Marjorie (Willard) Kuhlmann of Auburn, NE; Carol Rathke of Iowa City, IA; brother-in-law Harlan (Ruth) Bohling of rural Auburn, NE; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 2, 2016, at the St. James (Long Branch) Lutheran Church in rural Humboldt, Nebraska with Reverend Eric Spruth-Janssen officiating.

Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. on Sunday, May 1, 2016, at The Wherry Mortuary in Humboldt, Nebraska.  Family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. at the mortuary.  

Interment will be at the St. James (Long Branch) Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Harvey-Mann Legion Post #269 and Nebraska Army Honor Guard.

Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association, Juvenile Diabetes Association, or to the St. James (Long Branch) Church.
