Barbara A. Singletary, 86, of Horton, passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side, Monday evening, May 23, 2016, at her home in Horton.

Barbara was born October 2, 1929, at Whiting, one of two children born to Hun Clyde and Mary Ann Woodson Botts. She grew up in the Whiting-Horton area where she attended school, later graduating high school at Horton. Right after high school, she took classes in Kansas City to become a registered nurse. Barbara worked in Pueblo, CO, Santa Fe & Albuquerque, NM, and the VA Hospital in Topeka. She worked at the Brown County Infirmary prior to her doing volunteer work in Riverside, CA for the Heart Association and Our Lady of Guadalupe from 1961 until 2006 when they when she returned home to Horton.

Barbara was a longtime member of St. Leos Catholic Church of Horton.

She was married to Theodore Roosevelt Singletary April 18, 1951, at Santa Fe, NM. He died June 19, 2006.

Survivors include a daughter Patricia Singletary of Horton; a son Timothy Singletary (Josephine) of Fremont, CA; and seven grandchildren.

Barbara was also preceded in death by her parents; and a brother James Anthony Botts.

The family will receive friends starting at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, at St. Leos Church, followed by the parish rosary to be recited at 10:45. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. with Father Dan Gardner as the celebrant. Interment will be at St. Leos Church Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha from 12 noon until 6 Saturday.
