Velda Jean Schraer, 75, of Atchison KS died Tuesday, May 24th, 2016 at the Mosiac Life Center, St. Joseph, MO.

Funeral services will be 10:30 AM on Friday, May 27, 2016 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Cochran officiating. Burial will follow in the Larkinburg Cemetery, Larkinburg, KS.  The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00pm on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and may be sent in care of the funeral home.  Condolences to the family may be left online at www.beckerdyer.com.

Velda J. Miller was born on Aug. 16, 1940 in North Platte, NE the daughter of Wayne and Grace (Lutes) Miller. She attended McPherson County High School in Tryon, NE, and graduated from Stapleton High School, Stapleton, NE in 1958.  Velda worked as a housekeeper for the Best Western Motel, Atchison and later for the Benedictine Sisters, retiring in 2006. She was a member of the National Hot Rod Association, and the Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.).  Velda enjoyed raising flowers, feeding and watching birds, and drag races. 

She was married to John Schraer on Oct. 14th, 1974 in San Diego, CA. John and Velda were the proud parents of a son, Shawn A. Schraer who died while serving in the United States Air Force in 1989.  Mr. Schraer survives of the home. Additional survivors include a brother, Doye (Vickie) Miller, Tryon, NE, two sisters, Penny (Dan) Nicholson, Oologah, OK, and Berva (Dan) Arensdorf, Tryon, NE and a sister in law, Margaret Miller, North Platte, NE and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.   Her parents, Wayne & Grace Miller, parents in law, Todd & Lola Schraer, a son, Shawn Schraer and a brother, Elwin Miller preceded her in death.
