Edith “Edee” Mae Haug

Edith “Edee” Mae Haug, 95, of Seneca died peacefully on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at Life Care Center of Seneca.

Edee was born June 27, 1920, on a farm south of Seneca, to Roy L. and Lizzie M. Sherrer Cox. Edee grew up in the Centralia and Seneca area and graduated from Centralia High School in 1938. 

Edee worked in her early years at, J.C. Penny’s and the Nemaha County Court House in Seneca. 

On November 7, 1940, she married Elwyn C. Haug at Baileyville, Kansas. When Elwyn got a job with North American Consolidated Aircraft in Los Angeles, California, the couple moved there for a few years; in 1942, they moved back to Seneca where they remained. They celebrated their 50th anniversary on November 10, 1990. Elwyn passed away on December 26, 1990, after bypass surgery. 

Edee loved to take care of her flowers, play the piano, golf and play bridge. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Seneca, Nemaha Valley Community Hospital Guild, Seneca Golf Club, Eagles Club and several bridge clubs. She was a friendly person who was well known especially at the local drug store (Harsh Drug Store), where she enjoyed visiting and loved to tell jokes. 

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings, Marvin Cox, Melvin “Wart” Cox, Florence Schmidt, Erma Vernon and Ida Crandall. 

She is survived by a sister, Gladys Waters of Lawrence; and a brother, Elton Cox of Wichita.

Funeral service for Edee will be 11 AM Tuesday, June 7th, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.  Burial will be in the Seneca City Cemetery.
