Mitchell was born and raised in Atchison, graduating from AHS in 1995.  He later moved to Wichita, and at the time of his death had a very active online business, selling on both E-bay and Amazon.

Mitchell was an avid music fan, in particular of the rock group Manilla Road.  As both a collector and seller of music he eventually was introduced to and became good friends with the members of the Manilla Road group.  He did a vocal howl on one of their recent recordings and had his name listed in the credits.  Mitchell had many friends and was well thought of by all who knew him.

Mitchell is survived by his parents, Michael and Linda Bowen of Atchison, one brother Steven Bowen and one sister, Stevy Rose Bowen, both of Atchison, his paternal grandmother, Jackie (Kenny) Bowen of St. Joseph, and his paternal grandfather George (Shirley) Bowen of Kansas City, KS.  He is also survived by one aunt, Twila Jackson of Wichita, who was like a second mother to him. Stephanie Martindale was his girlfriend and best friend.  He is also survived by numerous neices and nephews and by his rescue cat, Aleister.
