Edith “Cindy” Bergmann

Edith “Cindy” Bergmann, age 89, formerly of Johnson, Nebraska was born on June 19, 1927 in Auburn, Nebraska to Walter and Opal (Chandler) Haith.  She was raised in Auburn where she attended Auburn Public Schools.

On October 21, 1943, Cindy was united in marriage to Orville John Henry Bergmann in Hiawatha, Kansas.  To this union four children Linda, Gordon, Reginald, and Marlin were born.  Cindy worked for many years as a cook at Johnson-Brock High School before opening her own restaurant.  She owned and operated Bergmann’s Café in Johnson for many years.  Cindy was an excellent cook that was well known for her pie making abilities.  People came from many miles around the area especially for her homemade pies.  She moved to Lincoln later in life after retirement to be closer to her family.  Cindy became a resident of the Arbor’s Nursing Facility when her health declined and passed away there on Friday, July 15, 2016 having reached the earthly age of eighty-nine years and twenty-six days.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Orville, a son Gordon, brothers: David, Walter, and Robert Haith, and a sister Judith Ann Haith.

Cindy is survived by her children: Linda Westlake of Lincoln, NE; Reginald (Maria) Bergmann of Lincoln, NE; Marlin (Christina) Bergmann of Lincoln, NE; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great grandchildren; sisters: Lela Smith of Lincoln, NE; Helen Wlashin of Waverly, NE; Rosalie Prince of Omaha, NE; Sandra Runge of Adams, NE; a brother Jack (Bernice) Haith of Port LaVaca, TX; sisters-in-law: Marcille Badberg of Auburn, NE; Mildred Kruger of Atchison, KS; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 19, at the Martin Luther Church in rural Johnson, Nebraska

Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. on Monday, July 18, at the Hall Funeral Chapel in Auburn, Nebraska.

Interment will be at the Martin Luther Cemetery in rural Johnson.
