Dorothy L. Flott, 88, of Sabetha, Kansas passed away Saturday, August 27, 2016 at the Apostolic Christian Home.

Dorothy was born February 24, 1928 on a farm near Ozawkie, Idaho to Irl and Maggie (Schuster) Baker. She was the youngest of 4 girls. Dorothy graduated from Ozawkie High School and entered the Stormont School of Nursing in Topeka, Kansas, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1949.

Upon graduation she worked at the hospital in Cody, Wyoming prior to returning to Topeka where she worked as a nurse. She married Kenneth Gerber in 1953 and continued to work as a nurse for Dr. Powers and Dr. Preston in Topeka. Born to this union were two children, Mike and Cinda. Kenneth died in 1963 and she then worked for Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka prior to marrying Elgin Flott on January 20, 1967 and moving to Sabetha, Kansas. He had three children, Becky, Drex and Nancy and the two families were joined as one. While in Sabetha she was busy raising the larger family but found time to serve in community activities and served as a Director of the Kaw Valley Council of Girl Scouts in Topeka. In 1980 after the children graduated from school, she and Elgin moved to Southwest Colorado and lived near Cortez until retirement in 1991 when they moved to St. George, Utah. In 1995 they returned to Sabetha and built a new home and again enjoyed small town living.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Mildred Brey of Holton, Marie Owens of Sabetha, and Bernice Brunton of Fayette, AR.

Survivors include her husband, Elgin; children, Mrs. Becky Fitzgerald of Fort Collins, CO, Drex Flott and Mike Gerber of Topeka, KS, Cinda Dobbs of Asheville, NC, and Mrs. Nancy Callahan of Wisconsin; and seven grandsons.

Memorial service will be held Thursday, September 1, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha. Inurnment will be made at the Sabetha Cemetery.
