Laura Bernice Leiker, 95, Meriden, died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, at a Topeka care facility.

She was born Feb. 2, 1921, at Horton, the daughter of George Thomas and Stella Blanche Darst Hamilton. She graduated from Horton High School.

Bernice was a supervisor at the Hallmark Cards Inc. Plant at Topeka, where she had worked for 36 years. She retired in 1986. She was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church at Meriden.

Bernice volunteered for many organizations in Topeka, recording over 5000 hours of donated time. She served the Topeka Blood Bank, Kansas Eye Institute at St. Francis Medical Center, Memorial Hospital (Sante Fe), and Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was a member of the Meriden Threshing Association.

She married Albert Vernon Griffin in 1936. They divorced. She married John Leiker in 1956, at Lawrence. He died June 10, 1973. She was also preceded in death by a brother, William Hamilton, and a sister, Viola Arneson.

Survivors include her son, George Griffin, Meriden; granddaughter, Janeice Griffin; and several nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Meriden. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. at Mt Calvary Cemetery in Topeka. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Monday, at the church, followed by a visitation.
