Jay Kevin Spencer, 52, Atchison, Kansas died unexpectedly Saturday, November 19, 2016 at his home.

Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Benedict’s Church with Rev. Jeremy Heppler, OSB as celebrant.  Interment of the cremated ashes will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.  A parish rosary will be recited on Tuesday, November 22nd at 7:00 P.M. at Maur Hill Mount Academy School Chapel with visitation with the family to follow until 8:30 P.M.  Memorial contributions are suggested to Maur Hill-Mount Academy School and may be left in care of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with whom the final arrangements have been entrusted.  Online condolences may be left at www.arensbergpruett.com.

Jay was born March 8, 1964 in Denver, Colorado the son of Jerry and Bonnie Sterkel Spencer.  He attended elementary school in Arvada, Colorado and graduated from Pomona High School.

He and Kathleen Mulholland were united in marriage on July 25, 2001 at St. Mary’s Church, Breckenridge, Colorado.  They later moved to Atchison, Kansas.

Jay was employed as the head of maintenance department at Maur Hill-Mount Academy School in Atchison since August, 2012.

He was a member of St. Benedict Parish in Atchison, Kansas.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Spencer of the couple’s home in Atchison, KS; two sons, Jackson Spencer and Matthew Spencer of Atchison, KS; his parents, Jerry and Bonnie Spencer, Leadville, CO; a brother Kurt Spencer, Denver, CO; a sister, Shelley Spencer and her husband, Eric Berger, Rifle, CO; and many loving in-laws, nieces, nephews and extended relatives.
