Eldon A. Mulroy

Eldon A. Mulroy, 85, formerly of Goff, died Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at Vintage Park Assisted Living in Holton.

He was born November 4, 1931 at Olpe, the son of Jerome and Geraldine Driscoll Mulroy.  He graduated from Goff High School in 1949.  He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, having served as a staff sergeant in Okinawa during the Korean War.

Eldon had farmed and raised cattle with his father and then owned and operated E&L Service & Grocery in Goff.  He operated the service station starting in 1962, and in 1984 started selling groceries as well.

He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Wetmore, and a charter member of Wetmore Knights of Columbus Council No. 10301.  He was also a member of Ponce DeLeon 4th Degree Assembly No. 283 in Seneca and Goff American Legion Post No. 316.  He served on the Nemaha County Volunteer Fire Department No. 1 at Goff over forty years, and had been the Fire Chief for over twenty-five years.  He served on the Sabetha U.S.D. 441 school board for twelve years and had been active in 4-H as a youth.

Eldon married Carol Bergman in 1958.  They were divorced.  He married Doris Guilbault on February 2, 1985 in Topeka.  She died December 5, 2014.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert Mulroy and Eugene Mulroy.

Survivors include his children, Shelle Arnold (Randy), Topeka, Dennis J. Mulroy, Soldier, Judy Mulroy, Aurora, CO and Angie Basile (Steve), Kearney, MO; three step-sons, Dennis K. Guilbault (Teresa), Topeka, Patrick "Brian" Guilbault (Donna), Marietta, GA and Mason Guilbault (Denise), Buffalo, ND; two brothers, Richard Mulroy (Lynne), Holton and Patrick Mulroy (Carol), Mayetta; one sister, Alice Macke (Don), Seneca; eleven grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 26th at St. James Catholic Church.  Burial with military honors will follow in the Wetmore Cemetery.  Eldon will lie in state Friday at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton where a Parish Rosary will be at 7:00 p.m. with visitation from 6:00 to 8:00.  Memorials are suggested to Jackson County Friends of Hospice or St. James Catholic Church, and may be sent in care of the funeral home, P.O.
