Thomas Albert Smith, 73, of Atchison KS died on Friday, December 9, 2016 at the Mosaic Life Center, St. Joseph, MO. 

Memorial services will be 2:00 pm on Thursday, Dec. 15th, 2016 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Rev. Sonya Griffith officiating. The body has been cremated and private interment will be at a later date. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 pm on Thursday, Dec. 15th, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Thomas was born on April 15, 1943 in St. Joseph, MO the son of L.G. and Evelyn Marie (Winder) Smith. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving two tours in Vietnam. After serving 16 years in the Army he retired at the rank of Captain. Mr. Smith owned and operated a bar in South Carolina, then worked as a bus driver in Niagara Falls, NY. He then worked as an Over the Road Truck Driver for Mid West Grain, Atchison for several years, and retired in 2005 from driving a bus again in Denver, CO. He enjoyed playing bingo, attending auctions, turkey shooting, and going to Casino’s and gambling.

Thomas was married to Barbara Faiers on Jan. 20th, 1959 in Niagara Falls, NY. Mrs. Smith survives of the home in Atchison. Additional survivors include two sons, Jeff Smith, Akron, Ohio and Tom (Tina) Smith, San Simon, AZ, a daughter, Angel Porter, Atchison, KS, one brother, L.G. Smith, Jr, Kenton, OK, and one sister, Elizabeth Ann “Betsy” and Larry Novotny, Edgerton, MO, seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. His parents, one brother, Roy F. Smith, and one sister, Mary Jean Ross, preceded him in death.
