Reowna " Nonie" Ross
Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton

Reowna “Nonie” M. Ross, 81, of Silver Lake, Kansas, passed through Heavens gates December 17th, 2016 at the St. Marys Manor surrounded by her children and husband. Nonie had been a resident of the Manor since September 24th, 2010.

Nonie was born in Horton, KS July 4th, 1935 to Robert and Zora (Pepple) Burke. She was twelfth of fourteen children born to her parents. Nonie loved her big family and looked forward to the yearly family reunions, her sibling Christmas gatherings and any other reason they found to be together. She married Bernard R. Ross April 23rd, 1955 in Omaha NE at the St. Marys Church. Bernard and Nonie lived in several towns but eventually made their home of 50 years in Silver Lake, KS. She was active in the PTA and enjoyed the many events of her children. Together, they enjoyed dancing at the local VFWs with many wonderful friends. Nonie worked hard making a beautiful home for her family and once her kids had grown she found work at Hallmark Cards starting in 1977 where she retired in 1997. She enjoyed painting, making floral arrangements and sharing them with family and friends. Nonie was an avid KU Basketball fan and loved Christmas, her second favorite holiday.

Nonie is survived by her husband Bernard - St. Marys, KS; her children – Mike (Kathy) Ross - Kelso, WA; Patty (CJ) Hamilton, Chuck (Julie) Ross, and Gary (Pattie) Ross - Silver Lake, KS; Theresa Ross – Lawrence, KS; Laura (Mike) Crozier – Tonganoxie, KS and Grandson Brady Ross – Overland Park, KS. She is also survived by 17 other grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and one on the way; sisters – Wyowna “Sug” Pollard of Sabetha, Kansas and Aloma Heim of Omaha, Nebraska, brother – Eldon Burke of Holton, Kansas. Nonie was preceded in death by her parents, a step-mother Margaret (Lowe) Burke; brothers – Lyle, Roland, Ronald, Robert, Kenneth and Elwood; sisters – Aloha, Twilla, Juanita and Wanda.

A rosary will be held Wednesday, Dec 21st at 6pm with a visitation immediately following at the Assumption-Mater Dei Catholic Church Topeka KS (204 SW 8th Ave). The funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec 22nd at 11:30am at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Horton KS (1340 First Ave East). Burial will be at the St. Leo's Cemetery.
