Delores Elaine Wassenberg

Delores Elaine Wassenberg entered her eternal life on December 18, 2016, in Odessa, TX, at the age of 89.

She was born on May 22, 1927, to Otto and Laura (DeWolf) Rutti in rural Marysville. Delores was raised on the family farm with older brothers, Harold and Milan Rutti, where she learned the love of her Lord and the meaning of hard work.

On November 25, 1947, at St. Gregory Catholic Church in Marysville, she married Darrell Wassenberg. They had 4 children.

Delores worked for Southwestern Bell in Marysville before having children. After spending time as a stay-at-home mother, she then went back to work at J.C. Penney in Marysville, where she retired.

In 2004, she moved to Chicago after her husband passed away, where she spent the next six years caring for grandchildren, after which, she moved to Midland, TX. There she spent her days at the Senior Center enjoying her new friends and playing chicken foot.

Delores will best be remembered for her love of Jesus, family, reading and making quilts for all her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Darrell, her parents, and 2 brothers.

Survivors include her four children, Dr. David Wassenberg (Sharon) of Midland, TX, Dr. Phillip (Ann) Wassenberg of Wetmore, KS, Jay Wassenberg of Gurnee, IL, and her daughter Kathie (Col. Ed) Davis of San Antonio, TX. Delores also has 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Delores’ final resting place will be next to Darrell at the Marysville Catholic Cemetery. A service will be held at the Kinsley Mortuary on Friday December 23, 2016 at 10 a.m. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m.

A memorial fund has been established and may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
