Marvin Anthony Hammersmith

Marvin Anthony Hammersmith, 77, of Horton, Kansas, passed away on Monday, December 19, 2016 at the Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas.

He was born on May 29, 1939 on a farm south of Gorham, Kansas, the son of Isador and Agatha (Sander) Hammersmith. He graduated from Gorham High School. Marvin was a shop foreman for years at Hammersmith Manufacturing Company. He was a member of the St. Leo's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and served on the church council.

On August 29, 1959 he married Shirley Rohr in Victoria, Kansas. She survives of the home. Other survivors include three daughters, Brenda (Allen) Baker of Horton, Kansas, Karla (Paul) Rush of Highland, Kansas and Kimberly (Harlan) of Olsburg, Kansas; two sisters, Katie Bellendir of Victoria, Kansas and Mary Lou Wherry of Lacrosse, Kansas; eight grandchildren, Cody Baker, Casey Baker, Cortney Stevenson, Morgan Rush, Mason Rush, Brooklyn Rush, Annie Ross and Quinten Ross; 4 great grandchildren. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents.

A rosary will be recited at 8:00 P.M. on Thursday evening at the St. Leo's Catholic Church in Horton, Kansas where the family will greet friends from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Funeral mass will be at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, December 23, 2016 at the St. Leo's Catholic Church. Burial will be at the St. Leo's Cemetery.
