Jeannine “Sue” Simpson

Jeannine “Sue” Simpson, 65, of Fairview, died shortly after arrival at Sabetha Community Hospital, Wednesday, December 21, 2016.

Sue was born at Hiawatha, June 2, 1951, one of three children born to Edward and Jeanne Brown Meyer and was lifelong resident of the Brown County area. She attended the eighth grade at Hamlin prior to graduating high school at Hiawatha. She later graduated from Highland Community College which is where she met her husband James Robert Simpson. They were married April 2, 1971. They raised three children: Tami, Travis and Jami together for 19 years before divorcing.

Sue worked at Wilde Tool, Nek-Cap, sold Avon, Tupperware and Amway products, before working for Walmart in Hiawatha, where she worked 27 years, retiring October of 2016, as invoicing & UPC clerk.

She was baptized and confirmed member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Fairview. She enjoyed her outside flowers, garden ponds, and crafts. Her passions were her grandchildren and great-grandson. Sue’s favorite time of the year was Christmas.

She was preceded in death by her father Edward; husband James Robert in 2009; and a sister Janice.

Survivors include her mother Jeanne Meyer of Fairview; two daughters: Tami Simpson (fiancé Chris Lehmkuhl) and Jami (Jeremy) Hodge, all of Hiawatha; a son Travis (Holly) Simpson of Lawrence; a brother Matt Meyer of Fairview; 5 grandchildren: Jacob, Justin, and Jordan Hodge, Madison Hargett, Dalton Lehmkuhl; and great-grandson Grayson Hargett.

Funeral Services are planned for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 29, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha, with Pastor Michael Dunaway officiating. Cremation will follow service.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 a.m. Wednesday where the family will meet from 5 until 7 that evening.
