Thamar Alma Masquat, 96, of Horton, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at the Horton Community Hospital.

She was born on April 21, 1920 in Rulo, Nebraska the daughter of Frank and Emma Lynn DuPuis.

Thamar attended Green Valley country school and graduated from Haskell Institute in Lawrence, Kansas. She married Theodore Masquat in Miami, Oklahoma. Thamar worked for Sunflower Ammunition depot, was a seamstress for the Horton Garment Factory for 18 years, she then went to work as a head cook for the United Tribes of Northeast Kansas and Southeast Nebraska WICK Program and then worked for Golden Eagle Casino in the Player's Club until she retired. She was the oldest enrolled member of the Kickapoo Tribe in Kansas, lifetime member of the Kickapoo American Legion Post #415 Auxiliary and served on the Kickapoo Senior Citizens Board.

Survivors include, a son Robert (Bobbi) Nanomantube of Horton, Kansas; brother, Dale DuPuis of Topeka, Kansas; three grandchildren, Dylan Nanomantube of Horton, Kansas, Devyn Nanomantube of Horton, Kansas and Daleen Miller of Topeka, Kansas and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ted on March 11, 1979, daughter, Carol Jean Anske, three sisters, Bernice Ogden, Geraldine Schuetz and Loretta walker, three brothers, Lewis "Bo" DuPuis, Vernon DuPuis and Darvin DuPuis.

A wake service will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at the Kickapoo Community Building with family visitation to follow. Burial service will be at 10:00 A.M. on Friday at the Kennekuk Indian Cemetery on the Kickapoo Reservation. A special message may be sent to the family at www.dishon-maple-chaney.com
