John Bernard Alfers, 100, of Arlington, Virginia formerly of Bendena, Kansas died Saturday, January 21, 2017.

John was born on July 6, 1916 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Eugene and Helena (Myers) Alfers. He lived most of his life in Virginia where he worked as an electrical engineer for the Defense Department.

John married Helen Broomhall. She preceded him in death on December 14, 2004.

John is survived by his son, Richard Alfers, daughter-in-law, Karen Alfers, grandchildren Cory Alfers and Casie Young, and great-grandchildren, Caden, Ashton, Riley and Ellie of Fairfax, Virginia.

MASS: Saturday, January 28, 2017 – 11:00 A.M.
At: St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Bendena, Kansas
Burial: St. Benedict’s Catholic Cemetery at the church.
Visitation: family will receive friends Friday evening 6-8 pm at the Harman Rohde Funeral Home in Troy, Kansas.
