Joyce Lorraine (Hefling) McAferty Spier, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Colonial Acres in Humboldt, Nebraska. She was born February 25, 1937 to Ira Franklin and Gladys Rose (Anderson) Hefling on the “Home Place” during a snowstorm. She was baptized at the Federated Church in Mt. Hope, KS. She graduated from Mt. Hope High School in 1955. She attended the American Business College and worked for Security Oil Company in Wichita, Kansas.

Joyce married Robert L. McAferty on July 4, 1957. In the Federated Church in Mt. Hope. Three children were born to this union, Debbie Sue, Michael Lee and Tony James. They were later divorced.

Joyce worked as a bookkeeper for Wittwer Construction Company and then worked for Donahue and Faesser for 28 years. She also worked for Experience Works  at the Pawnee Historical museum.

Joyce enjoyed working with stained glass, reading and taking care of her children. She especially enjoyed going to her grandchildren's activities.

On December 2, 1991 she was united in marriage to Robert H. Spier.

Joyce was a longtime member of the VFW Auxiliary in Pawnee City and of the Table Rock American Legion Auxiliary.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Ira Franklin and Gladys Rose Hefling, son Michael Lee Mc Aferty, brother James Franklin Hefling, husband Robert H. Spier, stepsons, Dale L. Spier and Larry J. Spier and former husband Robert L. McAferty.

Services 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at Wherry Mortuary, 919 G Street,Pawnee City, Nebraska.  Officiating Pastor Howard Blecha. Visitation on Tuesday, February, 7, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Wherry Mortuary, Pawnee City, Nebraska.
