Eugene M. “Gene” Zwonitzer, 55, of Holton, KS passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka. He was born March 22, 1961 in Topeka, KS, the son of Larry Eugene and Judith Ann (Moret) Zwonitzer.

Gene graduated from Holton High School in 1979 and lived all of his life in the Holton community. He worked along with his dad, Larry, with Zwonitzer Propane which he later owned. He was a member of the Evangel United Methodist Church in Holton. Gene was a long time member of the Holton Fire Department, serving as Fire Chief for 12 years, from 1992 to 2004. He was also a member of the Kansas Fire Fighters Association and the Cat Backers.

 He had been married to Marla Robbins. They were later divorced. He had also been married and divorced from Jean Danner and Janet McKee.

Gene is survived by his father, Larry Zwonitzer of Holton, KS; his daughters, Leah Ann Zwonitzer of Onaga, KS and Emily Gene Zwonitzer of Holton, KS; his sons, Jay Summers of Topeka, KS, Mark Summers, Brett Summers (Allie) and Ross Summers all of Holton, KS; 3 grandchildren, Emma, Olivia and Jackson Summers and his aunt, Katie Holliday (Merle) of Topeka, KS.

 Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 17, 2017 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in Holton Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
